Support - Ask here - Lord of the Lands link crashes browsers

Post subject: Lord of the Lands link crashes browsers
Admins,

When I visit the Lord of the Lands website, my browser freezes and eventually crashes.
I tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer on 3 different computers.
I also heard my kampaku has the same issue.

I think there are only 2 or 3 people on Yarolds using a Lord of the Lands link (including me!).

I have also sent a mail to the administrator of Lord of the Lands to ask what is causing these crashes and to solve the issue as soon as possible.

So I would like to ask you to temporarely disable all Lord of the Lands links on Yarold until the issue is resolved.

Also if someone is technically skilled enough to tell me what might cause these crashes, I would really appreciate if you tell me, so I can go with a more detailed issue case to the admin of Lord of the Lands.

Thanks,

Tsai

I think there is a problem with this link - I've had problems with it since last night as well, a bit intermittent but definitely getting slow down/shutdown problems with it.

So it doesn't happen always apparently or your computer is much stronger as mine...
(and as many others, because I know from different people out of different countries that visiting my referal link does crash their browser)

Does anyone has any idea what might cause this?

Is it possible that an advertisement on the site is causing it?
(Because those are not always the same, so that maybe explains why it doesn't always crash the browser...)

One time also my Virus scanner allerted that an exploit.pdf was dowloaded while visiting the Lord of the Lands link...
Not sure what that is.
I fully scanned my computer afterwards and nothing was found...

All help is much appreciated!

I might be getting the same problem. I load about 10-15 (sometimes more if I'm in a hurry) links at once and this one, if i recall correctly, is always in the batch that causes my computer to freeze/lag for about 5 mins. I've never had this issue until recently and my tactic has always been as mentioned above. i can't even bring the task manager up when I get this freeze/lag.

I'd like to see it disabled as well 'til the issue is fixed.

Edit: no, it doesn't happen every time, but it happens enough that I've grown irritated by it.

Avast antivirus gives me warnings about virus on Lord of the Lands links. The name of the virus is JS.Redirector-G [trj], so I think it uses javascript to crash the browser, or something; haven't googled it yet. It isn't adverts' fault, because I always have Adblock plugin turned on...

It's also hard to avoid LofL links, because they are yellow and hard to see. o:

I haven't had any problems with Lord of the Land links. I had 2 of them
today, and no problems with them, either.

I also have the browser freezing problem with that site. Another issue is that my virus software often blocks a website associated with it (perhaps an ad server or cookie tracker that it's redirecting to?) as malicious. It's not often that I'm completely blocked from loading a webpage, so my hackles are up. If it doesn't stop, I'll probably end up having to block it.

Never had problems with virus or spyware or freezing browsers ...I use a good good firewall and antivirus program.
Tsai - Tue Apr 28, 2009 6:43 am

The administrator is not responding to my mails...

How do you that?

malbus - Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:39 am

It has been acting up on me the past few day but yesterday and today it seems to have corrected itself and is loading quickly again and without any problem.

It is possible they had a malformed script on the page. It was irritating to say the least but it seems to be working again.

My A/V program didn't report a problem but the logs show it was analyzing the Lord of the Lands page for an excessively long period so there was some issue it didn't like.

thepossum1 - Tue Apr 28, 2009 1:32 pm

hmmmm, previously, I had no problem, but today, I've had it freeze my browser twice :(

( FF browser, link from user fanny)

mooraph - Tue Apr 28, 2009 1:51 pm

If you're experiencing problems with that web site and have Win XP/2003, do the following:

- Go to the path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
- Open the "host" file with the Notepad
- Copy the next line of text at the end of the file:
Code:
127.0.0.1    www.lordofthelands.nl

- Save the file and close it.
- Restart your web browser
- Be happy

i suggest using adblock in first way, this way you will never give a valid click

I am using adblock, but unfortunately that doesn't help :???:

I'll send another mail to the admin tomorrow...

What I did notice is that a file AcroRd32.exe is loaded in my task manager when clicking on the Lord of the Lands link.
As far as I know that file is only used by Acrobat Reader and as such has nothing to do with Lord of the Lands, so why the *** is that loaded when clicking a Lord of the Lands link?
Any usefull help understanding this, would be appreciated, because it might help me convince the admin of Lord of the Lands to fix the problem.

I posted that because Lolwut said Adblock doesn't work.
It's better not getting credits for a couple of links than freezing your PC for 5 mins

By the way I'm not experiencing any problem with that links.

Yarold - Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:18 am

adblock is a plugin that can be configured in many ways.

- subscribe to more lists
- for lotl add "http://www.lordofthelands.nl/" to blocked list, you still will be able to make valid clicks

thepossum1 - Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:29 am

Tried Yarold's tip above about adding to the block list. It took a little time, but got the site to load, clicked the number but got " error, frame didn't load" . Tried reloading, but still no frame load.

So, this means the person gets a valid click, but we do not get the credit for clicking it, correct?

Yarold - Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:51 pm

disabled frames for that one

I too, have been having problems with these links. Generally I have to force restart my entire system because I can't even get the Task Manager open to kill FireFox. Either that, or leave my computer alone for 30 minutes to over an hour for the site to finish doing whatever the heck it's doing that's locking everything up.

I've basically just stopped clicking the links. One or two less clicks per day isn't a huge loss to me, and it's certainly a better alternative to the freezing/locking up computer, crashes, forced restarts, etc.

I am using a wonderful Firefox addon called BlockSite. So far, it's allowing the LotL link to load and blocking the malicious site.

I had to block this site (I put a space in the address to prevent it from being an active link): http://gumb lar.cn

If you Google the address, just looking at the search results you can see that it is a known trojan that hackers install on unassuming websites. I bet they don't even know that their site has it. Someone mentioned being in contact with the admin... You might send them this link where I found some good info (yay, Google search): http://www.dynamicdrive.c...ead.php?t=43390

Interesting quote from page four of that message board topic:

Quote:
Evidently the virus will redirect IE and Firefox...Firefox will crash a lot.

Sound familiar? The IP website they posted is the exact link that my virus program was freaking over when I made my first post on this topic. I vote the site should be removed from the link exchange until they get fixed. We shouldn't be put at risk for this virus. :???:

Editing to add: I wanted to make completely sure that this was the site causing the trouble, so I closed everything down that I had running and opened the first Lord of the Lands link that I came across in the exchange. I received the same notification as before, so I am satisfied that it's the source of the problem.

I fully agree with you, not all people enter this forum and fewer people will read this advise.
