Support - Ask here - HAT issues? What is going on?
LakotaWolf - Tue May 05, 2009 10:37 pm Post subject: HAT issues? What is going on? -When did HAT totals reset?
-Why wasn't there an announcement about it?
-Do the Fortune Cookie pages count as HATs?
-Do the Dragon Was Faster pages count as HATs?
(If they both count, why weren't we told they were HATs? I close them without typing anything because I was never told they were HATs.)
-Is it possible to rebuild my suddenly INCREDIBLY bad HAT total? I used to have 96%, now suddenly, with NO warning, I have 57%.
I'm sorry if I sound whiny and ungrateful, but I've purchased credits twice from the site, so I feel that I am a paying customer of Yarold's and I find it really frustrating that there was no announcement/mass mail about these HAT changes.

Please don't anyone be offended, as none is intended and I am not pointing fingers.
I think that's pretty much the whole point of HATs--do you follow through? We shouldn't have to have a warning--you either follow through on links or you don't.
I personally suspect that some people ONLY follow through on HATs, not on the normal game links that require extra action. By that token, CARE is not really a good gauge of whether people actually follow through when it counts. It's basically a gauge as to whether you follow through on HATs.
Personally, I've stopped showing action links here except for the rare occasion due to the neglect those links have received. Just a waste of my credits and I've bought tons of them too.

When hat page appeared for first time it was made clear that it may change, and will change in future too.

Yes

in fact its good that the hats changed (or that there are new ones) and its needed that they will change again, because thats what they are made for.
before they changed i asked myself a long time why there is no change
my appreciation to this. i guess there are many thankful actionlinkowners
sorry for that little bit off topic

So it's totally fair that the types of HATs changed completely without warning?
I follow through on EVERY link, but I had no idea what the hell "Fortune cookies" or "Dragons" were, so half the time I didn't do anything with them, since they didn't seem personalized, I didn't think they were someone's fortune cookies or dragons needing clicks. Maybe I'm the stupid one for not always typing something into the box, but I certainly had no precedent to think anything was a HAT except... you know... the turret thing, which is LABELED as a HAT.
I understand that I "should" do HATs, but I seriously don't understand the logic that there is NO announcement about things I "should" do. It's a bad comparison, but if the laws of a city changed, and no one made an announcement, it's not exactly fair to arrest someone for breaking one of the new laws when there was absolutely no way for them to KNOW there even were new laws.
In the end, the HATs are gone, so it doesn't matter; I just personally don't agree with the logic of "we changed the system and we're not going to tell you, because you should just somehow KNOW."

If you have been reading through the forum for the last month or so Yarold first ran a contest for new hat pages.. Then he announced that there were 2 winners, after that it was said that there would be a test run.. Then they were added to the HAT tutorial... All of which would come up if you click the unread posts link and read through them.. It wasnt in bold but it was there. Jenn Kampaku of Feel Free and Happy

One plus to all of this--with only the prior 80 days' worth of HATs now counting toward your CARE %, that means that you should be able to repair a less than 25% CARE rating relatively quickly Ferrari pointed out something pretty cool in another thread--if you go into your profile & hover over CARE, it will show when you got HATs and whether or not you passed. I tried to figure out a pattern to the ones I got, but nope, Yarold is too good to make it THAT easy hahaha

Fast Facts shows up for me when I mouse over CARE, not profile :x
It'd be helpful if there were info on what needs to be done even after the click has been counted. Maybe the "link counted" message could be on a new line with the original instructions on the first line? I'd need help with anything that's not in English and have no idea what some of the messages later on say >.>
Another thing related to display is that it's always a good idea to use a lot of security/other extensions to speed things up on CEs, but that may unintentionally mess things up like MyBrute, I believe.
Then, there's various ways to link different things on the same site like people linking to what seems like their UniCreatures profile (some popularity credit or hoping that people go through all of the creatures?) instead of an individual adopt, where it's pretty obvious.

I know exactly what you mean, but at least most of the current games/links have been around quite a while now, so knowing what needs to be clicked or types eventually gets figured out.....Even though I still have no idea whatsoever, what some of them say in their language(s).
Really should be a quick little English translation at the bottom of a page/window of what needs to be done.....some do, but not all of them have that.

Frames are added everywhere where it is possible

Many of the frames simply say "Please wait until your click is counted" which really doesn't tell people what to do, especially when the page being brought up is in an unfamiliar language. It would be much more helpful to include additional instructions for all the framed pages rather than just the generic "please wait" message.
I realize it adds more issues for you and the staff to deal with but if a new game comes along (even some of the existing games) and I don't know what to do with it, I am forced to pass on completing it since I'm not going to just click randomly or fill out some line when I don't know what I'm doing with it. I'm sure there are others that are forced to do the same.
At least many of the games use the same template style so it is kind of easy to figure out but some of them I have no clue what to do with them or even know if it is a game (some look more like portal sites than games).
jkcove08 - Sun May 10, 2009 2:40 pm
In previous threads both Yarold and DemonicJ have asked for anyone who knows the games to send them the wording that would be best in these frames. If you have a game that you think needs better wording then write either one of them and then they will get it changed. Jenn

Sounds good to me. I know they must have some of the same issues trying to figure out some of these games. Thanks
