Posted: Thu Aug 14, 2008 11:04 pm   Regarding Link Slot Update

As you may have noticed there have been some changes made regarding the use of link slots. There were a few bugs but they have *hopefully* all been fixed. Below are the changes made in simplistic point form.

- Changing the visibility of your links will not be effected by the new updates, you are able to show/hide your links via the visibility option freely.

- New site members (people with all empty link slots) will have their links updated immediately.

- All changes regarding the links themselves (adding/removing/replacing) will be made at the next reset.

- Links you have opted to remove will be hidden, they are not displayed to other users.

- You may re-add a removed (or changed) link if you desire, it will immediately return to the state it was before you removed (or changed) it.

- If you change your link to one of the same game it will update automatically.

Example 1; dragcave.net/user/*insert-user-name* can be immediately changed to dragcave.net/viewdragon/*insert-dragon-name*
Example 2; user.myminicity.com/tra can be immediately changed to user.myminicity.com/ind

- The new version of the link will show only to those who did not click the first version of the link.

Please read this post thoroughly, if you have any questions please feel free to post them below. Please keep in mind flaming/spamming/repeated questions will not be tolerated. These changes have been put into place to make this link exchange as fair and user friendly as possible.

Since My Dream City has been up & down lately,I've tried to hide that link, but as soon as I do that I cant visit new links.Does it means I would have to hide it just before reset, and then keep on clicking after reset?

Are you trying to remove the link or are you changing it's visibility? If you are removing the link, the link will be removed at the next reset. However, noone will be able to click on that link while it is in the process of deletion.

The only reason you would not be able to click on other peoples links is if you do not have a link currently showing for others to click on. So, if you only have one link and it is set to be removed, you will not be able to click other links.

If you are setting the links visibility to hide then there is no reason why you cannot click on links (as the link will continue to show in history unless you are VIP). Someone else mentioned a similar problem so to be sure this isn't a bug could I trouble you for a screen so I can see what you are seeing?

We're looking at problem already. No need for a screen shot.

Are you saying that if I choose to delete a link and it says "deleting" (in other words, it will indeed be deleted at the next reset) that people do not see it (even in history) and they can't click on it? Because I had a link that was set to deleting for most of the day yesterday and it certainly gathered clicks.

LOL...I usually have 2 (two) links available

1: MyMiniCity - Always available in Exchange Links + Dynasty
2: My Dream City - Just in Dynasty (normally) and sometimes in Exchange Links also

That means dear Admins that I ALWAYS have 1 link available at all time.Since there has been some difficulties with MyDreamCity I wanted to remove/hide that when the site was down.It is its visibility I want to change,so maybe that's why I have these problems? ;P

Anyway, now it looks like it is working perfect again.:) MyDreamCity is there, but no-one can visit that link, and I can continue clicking on other links.....HURRAY :)

You always need to have at least 1 link available, is not new update.
That has always been there.

Okay, this used to not make much sense to me, but now I think I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong...

The new system of adding/deleting links fixes a couple of problems (now that the bugs are removed).

First, it lowers the workload on the moderators a bit if they don't have to keep up with new links that aren't in the system being constantly added... since they technically are only added once per day (at reset) now.

Second, when you delete a link now it is still deactivated, but it doesn't instantly disappear from the system... so if you did it by accident, or you change your mind later before the reset, you can re-enter the link and it goes back to working. Also, since it does not leave the system, it isn't reset when this happens so you don't lose credits from people clicking on a 'new' link that isn't really new.

Being able to switch from one link on a site to another on the same site is also quite handy.

This system used to worry me, but now it actually seems a lot more convenient than the old way of doing things.

Does this mean we can't put up extra links during Happy Hour?

No you can put extra links but most probably only a VIP can do this now since they have the option to hide their links completely can be shown immediately whenever they want. This update is made so that people don't put up extra links and 15 minutes later insert links again to make the links active again and 15 minutes later inset links again and so on which is like limitless links to click to boost up average.
